Christmas is coming and it’s the perfect time to treat your loved ones to traditional cakes, tasty mince pies and delicious puddings. Here are a few seasonal tips to get you started:

  • Carry out a quick pantry stock take and list any ingredients that need buying or replacing. Also, check you’ve got all the tins and bowls you need.
  • While you’re in the shops look out for festive pastry cutters to add fun to your fare. You can get everything from stars to reindeers.
  • Once you’ve decided what to bake and are ready to go, put on some Christmas Carols to get you and the family into the spirit.
  • Perhaps start off with a Christmas Pudding. They can be made up to 3 months in advance.
  • When the recipe requires it, your Sunbeam fruit should be soaked overnight in brandy to help preserve your puddings and cakes and give them an extra special flavour.
  • A cheaper brandy (or rum) should be fine.
  • Organise your equipment and measure ingredients before you start mixing.

  • Steaming your Pudding in a slow cooker:
  • Check pudding bowl fits slow cooker first, with the lid firmly in place. A standard slow cooker should comfortably fit a 2L pudding bowl.
  • Cover pudding bowl with greaseproof paper and foil, using pleat method.
  • Use boiling water to fill up 2/3 up side of bowl.
  • Use high setting and cook for 6hrs, and check the water level intermittently.

Now enjoy yourself. Happy baking and Merry Christmas!
